Research suggests that gut health is central to overall health. A prominent study found that eating 30 plants a week leads to a more diverse gut microbiome. “Looking after your gut health really lowers your risk of things like colon cancer and inflammatory bowel disease, and it can look after your mental health,” Gabrielle Morse, a gut health specialist and registered dietitian at The Gut Health Clinic , told Business Insider. “There's a gut-liver axis, so our gut health looks after our liver. I joked that this would mean adding five or six years to our life expectancy. When I shared Noem’s remarks on social media, some of my correspondents asked whether this meant that we’re about to get good train service and better food. But Noem’s remarks were part of a long tradition among U.S. conservatives: insisting that Europe is already experiencing the disasters they claim will happen as a result of liberal policies here. In the past, however, the imagined European dystopia was supposed to be a result of high taxes and generous social benefits, which allegedly destroyed the incentive to work and innovate. So it seems worth asking what problems Europe really has — that is, problems that are different from our own.

If there’s a better scent in the world than Marcella Hazan’s Bolognese sauce (above), I’m unaware of it. Well, apart from fresh-baked apple pie, that is. And wooden boats, spit-roasted lamb, fresh-cut hay and Jamaican black cake. But Bolognese is pretty great: that milk-calmed tomato over a bass line of beef, with a whisper of nutmeg warmth and a low hum of buttery onion. It’s just the thing for a Sunday afternoon of winter cooking, grandma-style, in advance of a family dinner.

The banker later admitted that he had shared the food with his partner and was fired by Citibank. In response, Mr Fekete's senior manager said that the receipt "appears to have two sandwiches, two coffees, and another drink . The bank also questioned whether he had shared two dinners of pesto pasta and pasta Bolognese with his partner, but Mr Fekete said that this was not the case. On the menu at New York City’s 11 public hospitals is pasta with Bolognese sauce, without the meat. NYC Health + Hospitals, the country’s largest municipal health system, has made plant-based food the default for inpatient meals. That means the food contains no meat, dairy or eggs. Now, a year after it made those sweeping changes, the hospital system has reduced its food-related carbon emissions by 36 percent, according to the mayor’s office. And, jokes about hospital food aside, the changes seem to be a hit with patients.

Dinner reservations can fall through, or once they get to the restaurant, the yacht owners may decide the vibes are off and that they no longer want to eat there. But I don't just cook for the owners, the guests, and the crew — sometimes, I cook for the owner's pets. A New Spin on Spin: Reviving a Bolognese Folk Dance

Two men arrive on the dance floor, holding hands. This is the polka chinata, or crouched polka, a nearly defunct Bolognese folk dance. He had made other works using folk dance, but he had never heard of an Italian couple dance for men. He sought out Giancarlo Stagni, a dance teacher in Castel San Pietro Terme, near Bologna. Stagni told him that the number of people who danced the polka chinata had shrunk to just five.

Knowing nothing about Maltese food, I assumed it would be a variation on the fare of nearby Sicily. “Our food is a reflection of all of the peoples who ruled us,” he said, explaining that Malta has one of the world’s most cosmopolitan cuisines. CASTEL BOLOGNESE, Italy, May 18 (Reuters) - Floods that killed at least 13 people in Italy's northern Emilia-Romagna region caused billions of euros' worth of damage and hit agriculture particularly hard, the regional governor said on Thursday. "We are facing a new earthquake," Emilia-Romagna President Stefano Bonaccini told reporters, recalling the seismic events that struck the region in 2012, destroying thousands of homes. The government has promised an extra 20 million euros ($22 million) in emergency aid, on top of the 10 million euros allocated in response to previous floods two weeks ago, which killed at least two people. Italians judge Spanish pizzeria as the best in Europe

The 2023 European list has just been published – and, according to 1,000 anonymous “inspectors” across the continent, the best pizza in Europe is in… Spain. The entity – a pizza guide, which has been ranking restaurants since 2017 – has separate listings for the 50 best pizzerias in the cradle of pizza. The best pizza was judged to be Panatieri's "Salsa de tomates cherry asados, mozzarella y holandesa de albahaca." Turn Your Pasta Primavera Into a Lasagna
  + stars: | 2023-05-03 | by ( Melissa Clark | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: 1 min
In the United States, lasagna almost universally entails tomato sauce, mozzarella and ricotta. However, a recent visit to Italy reminded me that the lasagna family is, in fact, vast and varied. There are hard-boiled egg and meatball-stuffed lasagnas from Naples; chicken liver studded ones from Le Marche; Bolognese and béchamel-swathed examples from Emilia-Romagna. But there was one version that made me run to pull out my lasagna pan as soon as I got home: white lasagna. Made with a béchamel sauce and often meatless, white lasagnas are plush, creamy showcases for seasonal vegetables — artichokes in spring, zucchini in summer, mushrooms in the fall, radicchio in winter — layered between thin sheets of pasta, then baked until golden.
ROME, May 3 (Reuters) - Torrential rain lashed Italy's northern Emilia Romagna region over the last 24 hours, causing extensive flooding and killing at least two people, rescuers and media said on Wednesday. An elderly cyclist drowned when he was swept away by flood waters in the town of Castel Bolognese, Ansa news agency reported. The rain follows months of drought which raised concerns about the low water level in the Po, Italy's largest river, which runs West to East through the northern part of Emilia Romagna. The Lamborghini Revuelto is a plug-in hybrid and, while it still has a V12 gasoline engine, it also has three electric motors. The new V12 engine is also slightly lighter – by 37.5 pounds – than the engine in the Aventador supercar it’s replacing. Lamborghini has not yet announced the price of the Revuelto but all these new plug-in hybrid models will cost significantly more than the models they replace, Winkelmann said. Still, the sharing of parts and production lines will do little to offset the increased cost of the shift to plugin hybrid power, he said. Given current battery technology, an electric Lamborghini supercar just isn’t possible, Winkelmann has said, because the batteries are simply too heavy.
George Santos' campaign spent thousands at an Italian restaurant in Queens during his run for Congress. That's enough money to buy 1,131 orders of the restaurant's $23 rigatoni bolognese, or nearly 1,800 pizzas. The embattled first-time Republican congressman's campaign spent more than $26,000 in funds at an Italian joint in Queens, New York, updated financial disclosure documents from his campaign show. Santos' financial disclosures also revealed he owes the restaurant another $18,773.54 for a campaign election night event. Representatives for George Santos' campaign did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.
CNN —The Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato, officially unveiled in Miami Wednesday will be the Italian automaker’s maker’s last purely gasoline-powered supercar. It will also be unlike any Lamborghini supercar before because it’s designed to go off-road. Other Huracán supercars have air scoops on the side but, in this car, the side air scoops are permanently closed. But the concept of the Huracán Sterrato came entirely from inside Lamborghini, said Brokert, as engineers were developing the Urus, Lamborghini’s SUV. Production of the Huracán Sterrato will begin at Lamborghini’s factory in Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy, in February.
